NEW: Intoxicated driver caused crash that killed another driver in Tarrant County

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality accident that occurred on Thursday night along Farm to Market Road 730 near Reed Road north of Azle.

Just before 9:30pm, multiple emergency responders from Azle FD/EMS, Briar Reno FD, Eagle Mountain EMS, and others were called to the scene after there were reports of a head-on collision with people trapped in the vehicles. Firefighters found both drivers were heavily trapped in their vehicles and requested assistance for extended extrication.

CareFlite helicopters were called to the scene and landed at the nearby VFW.

Traffic investigators say a 33-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck northbound on FM 730 when she attempted to pass a slower vehicle. She veered into the oncoming lanes and hit a passenger car head-on. Both drivers were cut out of their vehicles and transported to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth.

The driver of the passenger car, identified as a 68-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The 33-year-old woman who caused the accident was found to be under the influence at the time of the collision. She has been transferred from JPS Hospital to the Tarrant County jail on an Intoxication Manslaughter charge.

Lanes of the roadway were closed for most of the evening while emergency responders cleared the scene.
