Intoxicated speeding driver causes fatal crash in Denton, police say
The Denton Police Department is investigating a fatality crash during the overnight hours that killed one driver and seriously injured the other.
At 2:17am this morning, Denton police and fire were dispatched to the intersection of Jim Christal Road and N. Western Blvd, a rural intersection near Denton’s Municipal Airport. First responders located two vehicles with significant damage.
Investigators say the driver of a pickup truck was intoxicated and traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and broadsided another vehicle driving along Jim Christal Road. The driver of the pickup truck was ejected. The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol and speed are two primary factors in the crash, Denton police say. They are currently investigating this as an intoxication manslaughter charge. No arrests have been made yet.
The driver at fault remains hospitalized with major injuries after being ejected in the crash.
