Three high school cross-country runners hit and injured by vehicle in McKinney

Just before 7:00am this morning, McKinney Police and Fire/EMS crews were dispatched to the intersection of Virginia Parkway and Crutcher Crossing for a major accident.

First responders located three individuals that had been struck and injured by a vehicle. EMS transported all three to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say the three individuals were cross-country runners from McKinney Boyd High School, located not far from the accident site. All three runners were crossing the crosswalk when the crash occurred. They were wearing appropriate vests and had the right of way.

The vehicle turning left did not yield to the runners and inadvertently struck the students, according to school officials.

“We are grateful that the students are safe, and would like to remind parents and the public to please support us in our efforts to encourage safe driving, especially during drop-off and pick-up times and early in the morning when pedestrian traffic is higher,” read a statement to McKinney ISD parents.
