Man fatally struck by vehicle while walking across I-30 in Dallas

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality accident that occurred Saturday evening along westbound Interstate 30 near St. Francis Avenue.

Just before 9:00pm last night, Dallas Fire Rescue crews and Dallas County sheriffs deputies responded to reports of a person struck on the highway. Engine 53 arrived to find a man laying deceased in the lanes of the highway.

Investigators believe the man was attempting to cross Interstate 30 on foot when he was struck in the fast lane by a Jeep SUV. A second vehicle swerved to avoid the collision, but crashed into the Jeep. The two drivers were not injured.

Police say a broken cane was located at the scene, possibly indicating the pedestrian was disabled. He was wearing a dark colored jacket and clothing when he was hit.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the body and cause of death.
