Two drivers killed in head-on crash along 287 in Midlothian

The Midlothian Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred Sunday evening in the northbound lanes of Highway 287 near the entrance to Midway Airport between Midlothian and Waxahachie.

Police believe an 83-year-old woman turned left onto Highway 287 after leaving the Whataburger, but did not travel all the way across the highway. She turned too early and started driving southbound in the northbound lanes of 287.

Multiple drivers called 9-1-1 and reported the wrong way driver. Before police were able to catch up, she collided with another vehicle head-on.

The 83-year-old driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was from Midlothian. The driver of the other vehicle, a 26-year-old Crowley woman, was also pronounced deceased at the scene. Her 6-year-old daughter inside the vehicle was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Both directions of the highway were closed for a few hours while Midlothian police investigated the scene.
