Driver killed after colliding with 18-wheeler in Dallas traffic

The Dallas Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred Thursday morning along IH-635 and Hillcrest Drive.

At 11:09am, Dallas Fire Rescue and Police Department responded to the scene along the eastbound lanes of 635. All lanes were diverted off the highway while police worked the scene.

Investigators say the driver of a utility pickup truck was driving in stop and go traffic on the highway when he collided with an 18-wheeler that had stopped in the traffic. Impact from the collision caused the utility truck to lodge up under the trailer of the semi, pinning the driver.

Dallas Fire Rescue responded with their heavy rescue team to extricate the trapped driver, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as a 45-year-old man. His 44-year-old passenger was not seriously injured.

Lanes of eastbound 635 were closed at Preston Road while Dallas PD investigated the scene.
