UPDATE: NB I35W closed in Fort Worth due to pursuit and officer-involved shooting

The Fort Worth Police Department is currently investigating the end of a police chase and subsequent officer-involved shooting on northbound Interstate 35W between Interstate 30 and Highway 121. Hill County Sheriff’s Office and DPS were leading the chase.

Law enforcement was in pursuit of a vehicle on northbound I35W from the Hill County area at speeds in excess of 100MPH. During the pursuit, it was reported that the driver had a gun to the throat of a passenger inside the vehicle.

The pursuit came into Fort Worth and ended in a crash at I35W and Spur 280. All northbound lanes were closed while Fort Worth PD engaged in a standoff with the armed driver inside the vehicle.

Around 10-15 minutes after the police chase ended, at least two officers fired their weapons hitting the armed suspect. The passenger in the vehicle also sustained a gunshot wound, but it is unclear when the victim was injured. It is possible the victim was shot during the pursuit.

Traffic was heavily congested in the area due to the highway closure, which forced Fort Worth police officers to put the injured passenger into a patrol car and drive to JPS hospital. Their condition is serious.

The suspect was hit and has not been transported from the scene. Their condition has not been released.

No officers have been injured.

This is a very active situation. Expect a prolonged closure on northbound I35W while police agencies investigated this scene.
