Church, house, and Chicken Express destroyed in fire near downtown McKinney

Just after midnight, McKinney firefighters responded to a fire at the New Outreach Church of God in Christ, located at 506 Wilcox Street, and observed heavy flames showing from the building. An adjacent residence also caught fire.

As firefighters were working to contain the fire at the church, they received word of another fire at the Chicken Express restaurant one street over. The fire engulfed most of the restaurant.

McKinney FD requested multiple alarms to the fire(s). They received assistance from several neighboring departments, including Anna, Melissa, Plano, Fairview, Princeton, Frisco, Lowry Crossing, Weston, and Allen.

Fire investigators are on the scene to determine where and how the fire started – and whether the two fire scenes are connected. ATF has been called in to assist with the investigation. Winds were gusting at the time of the fire, which could have helped it spread to the multiple buildings.

No injuries have been reported.
