Man found dead in Denton home was there for “significant amount of time” police say

The Denton Police Department is investigating the death of a man found inside his house in the 1500 block of Wellington Drive.

Denton detectives were contacted last month by the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General requesting a welfare check on one of their recipients. It was explained to detectives at that time that the Social Security Administration was unable to reach their recipient, who was listed as a 103 year old male. Since that time, police have been unsuccessful in reaching the man and began an investigation into possible Exploitation of an Elderly or Disabled Person. They obtained probable cause that this offense was occurring and were granted a search warrant.

When officers executed the search warrant, they observed the home to be in a bad condition that posed a “significant health risk” to the residents. One male, believed to be the male the Social Security Administration was attempting to reach, was located deceased inside of the home.  It is believed the male had been dead inside the home for a significant time, possibly years.

An adult male and adult female were also located inside the home and were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluations.

Denton FD investigated the home as a possible hazardous material situation; however, firefighters determined there was no immediate threat to the neighborhood.

At this time, no charges have been filed in either the Exploitation of an Elderly or Disabled Person investigation or in relation to the death investigation.
