Maintenance worker shot, killed while checking for water leaks at Grand Prairie apartments

The Grand Prairie Police Department says a 53-year-old maintenance man was killed Christmas Eve while checking an apartment building for water leaks.

At around 6:00pm on Saturday evening, Grand Prairie police responded to the Clayton Point Apartments, 2955 Alouette Drive, for reports of a shooting. Emergency responders arrived to find the injured maintenance worker on a resident’s balcony. Paramedics transported him to Medical City Arlington, but he was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Detectives determined the maintenance man was checking several apartment balconies for water leaks and busted pipes when a resident thought the man was a burglar. The resident armed himself and shot the maintenance man through the window.

The resident remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives. At this time, no arrests have been made.

While this case remains under investigation, Grand Prairie Detectives will refer the case to the Tarrant County Grand Jury for review.
