The Grapevine Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that shut down westbound lanes of SH-114 overnight for approximately five hours.

Just after 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, the driver of a sedan veered right on SH-114 and struck a light pole. The driver overcorrected and ended up crossing several lanes of traffic in front of a pickup. The pickup t-boned the sedan.

Both vehicles were stopped on the highway as witnesses called 9-1-1. The driver of the sedan was trapped behind the wheel. 

Grapevine Police tried to free the driver and render aid, but the 30-year-old man was pronounced deceased by Grapevine Fire paramedics a short time later. The driver of the pickup was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Grapevine Police shut down westbound lanes of SH-114 for approximately five hours between William D. Tate and Texan Trail while a crash team investigated the accident. Officers from the Irving Police Department and DFW Airport Police Department assisted with the closure.

On Thursday at about 6:56pm, Fort Worth FD, PD, and MedStar EMS units were dispatched to the 100 block of the North Texas Express Westbound toll lanes of Northeast Loop 820 in reference to a major accident involving two vehicles. The crash was located between Riverside and I35W.

Upon arrival, officers observed that the victim, an adult male, had been traveling in a passenger vehicle westbound in the toll lanes of Northeast Loop 820.  A pickup truck was also traveling westbound in the toll lanes of Northeast Loop 820 when the driver made an abrupt movement to exit onto the North Texas Express lane exit ramp.  The driver of the pickup struck the crash attenuator that divides the lanes of travel and the exit lanes, went airborne and landed on top of the passenger vehicle.  Both vehicles then came to rest.

The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel and the driver of the pickup was uninjured.

The Traffic Investigation Unit detectives will be conducting the on-scene investigation.

At 4:37 a.m. this morning, Dallas Fire-Rescue units were assigned to a 911 call for a structure fire at the old Valley View Center, located at 13331 Preston Road, in North Dallas.

First arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions in the abandoned shopping center, and a second alarm was quickly requested.

During the course of operations, firefighters became trapped by the fire, but they were quickly rescued and removed from the structure. One sustained undisclosed burn injuries while the other sustained an injury of the musculoskeletal variety. Neither of the firefighters’ injuries were life-threatening, but both members were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Fire operations are currently defensive, and the operation is still ongoing with developing details.

Currently the cause of the fire is undetermined.

At 4:16am this morning, Gainesville FD and PD responded to a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 in the city limits of Gainesville, just south of the Texas and Oklahoma border.

Preliminary details indicate a pedestrian attempted to cross the interstate on foot, but was struck by a northbound 18-wheeler. The pedestrian, identified as a 38-year-old Gainesville man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the 18-wheeler stopped to render aid. He was not seriously hurt.

Charges, if any, have not been released.

On March 15, 2023, at around 1:20 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at the Bitter End night club in the 2800 block of Elm Street.  The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived they found two victims, a man and woman, had been shot.

Officers determined the male victim was on the patio of the business when he was approached by a unknown suspect who fired multiple shots, hitting the victim.

Further investigation showed one of the rounds fired went through the business window and hit a female victim standing inside.

The suspect ran northbound on Elm after the shooting. He is described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall, thin build, and last seen wearing a black hoodie with a design or lettering on the front, shorts, and a ski mask.

In addition, a third person was injured when he was hit by a bullet fragment. He was taken to a hospital by private vehicle with non-life threatening injuries.

The identities of the victims are not being released until family notifications can be made.
