16-year-old killed in Garland crash while fleeing from police

On Wednesday, April 5, Garland Police attempted to make a traffic stop that resulted in the vehicle fleeing and crashing a short time later.
At around 10:25pm, Garland officers attempted to stop a sedan for a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to stop and led officers on a brief chase in the area of Garland Avenue and Walnut Street. The driver of the fleeing vehicle disregarded the flashing red lights at the DART train crossing on N. Garland Avenue, at which point Garland officers terminated the pursuit and lost sight of the vehicle.
A short time later, officers came upon a two vehicle crash involving the suspect at W. Ave B and Garland Avenue. Information indicates the suspect driver ran a red light and hit an innocent vehicle.
As a result of the crash, five people were transported to hospitals: three from the suspect vehicle and two from the innocent vehicle.
One of the passengers riding inside the suspect vehicle was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Police have identified the victim as a 16-year-old male.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, an 18-year-old man, has been charged with Murder. Additional charges are pending.
This is an ongoing investigation.
