Arlington motor officer killed in Dallas crash while riding motorcycle into work

Early Thursday morning, the Arlington Police Department was notified that an APD officer was involved in a crash near I-20 and Dowdy Ferry Road in Dallas as he was heading into work for the day.

That employee, Officer Darrin McMichael, Badge #1805, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Officer McMichael was a 24-year veteran of the Arlington Police Department and a dedicated member of our Motorcycle Unit, where he’d honorably served for the last 13 years. He also served as a patrol officer and as a detective in our North Patrol District during his APD career.

Officer McMichael’s wife is also a police officer with Arlington PD. Unfortunately she was driving behind him at the time of the crash, and witnessed the tragic accident.

“Officer Darrin McMichael was a respected and beloved member of our APD family,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “We are heartbroken and we are hurting. This is a devastating loss that will be felt for a long time. Please pray for his wife, who is also an APD employee, his family, his friends, and his APD family. They need all the support they can get right now.”

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Crimes Unit is actively investigating the accident. They are seeking the community’s assistance in locating and identifying a dark-colored Dodge/Chrysler-type vehicle and the identity of the driver that was involved in the accident and fled the scene.
