Man drowns trying to help child struggling in water, Fort Worth police say

On Sunday, July 21, at 3:42pm, Fort Worth Fire Department, Police Department, and MedStar EMS were dispatched to Beach Street and East Freeway at the Trinity River for reports of a possible drowning.

Emergency personnel confirmed that the male victim jumped in to save a child that was struggling in the water. The child was rescued, but the male was taken under by the current.

Fort Worth PD’s Air-1 helicopter assisted in locating the adult male, whose body was recovered a short distance away from the scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released his identity at this time.
