Arlington woman struck, killed by vehicle after collision

The Arlington Police Department is investigating an auto-pedestrian collision that resulted in the death of a 53-year-old woman.

On Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 6:21 a.m., Arlington Fire, Police, and EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Matlock Road and Turner Warnell Road to investigate a reported two-vehicle crash. While they were en route, 911 Dispatch was notified that one of the drivers involved in the crash had exited her vehicle and was struck by another vehicle passing through the intersection.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the 53-year-old woman lying unresponsive on the ground. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased from her injuries.

Crash Investigators determined the woman had been driving a vehicle northbound on Matlock Road. As she was passing through the intersection at Turner Warnell Road, the driver of a second vehicle in the southbound lanes of Matlock Road attempted to make a left turn onto Turner Warnell and collided with her vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle exited to check on the driver of the second and to exchange insurance information. As she attempted to cross the intersection, she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Matlock Road.

The driver who hit her immediately stopped, waited for officers to arrive, and was cooperative with the investigation. He is not currently facing any criminal charges in connection to this incident. Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman as a resident of Arlington.

UPDATE: 500+ animals killed in Dallas fire, officials say

On Friday, January 3, 2025 at around 9:15am, Dallas Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a 911 call for a structure fire at the Plaza Latina, located at 11200 Harry Hines Blvd., in Northwest Dallas.

When firefighters arrived at the large one-story commercial building, they were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions. Recognizing that suppression efforts would be defensive early on, a second-alarm response was immediately requested; which resulted in approximately 40-45 firefighters on scene to mitigate the situation, using hand lines and three ladder pipes to surround and drown the fire from all sides.

Firefighters continued their efforts for around two hours before ultimately declaring the fire extinguished at 11:03 a.m.

The fire left behind severe structural damage, including a partial roof collapse, to the building which housed multiple small businesses.

There was a pet shop in the shopping center around the rear of the part of the structure that was directly impacted by fire.  While fire did not reach the pet shop, a great deal of smoke did enter.  While DFR personnel did search and attempt rescue, all animals in the shop unfortunately perished due to smoke inhalation.

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) were called to the scene and removed a total of 579 animals.  Most were small birds, but there were also chickens, hamsters, two (2) dogs, and two (2) cats. No exotic animals were found on the site at the time of recovery

It’s unclear how many people were at the location when the fire began, but there were no injuries reported in association with the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE: Road rage causes fatal crash along I20 near Weatherford

At around 8:51am this morning, Weatherford Fire Department, DPS Troopers, and Parker County Hospital District EMS were dispatched to a major accident involving an overturned vehicle in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 just before Center Point Road.

When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they observed three individuals ejected from the overturned vehicle. One of the individuals, a 33-year-old, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A total of three others were transported from the scene to a Fort Worth hospital.

DPS investigators say an SUV, occupied by four people, entered the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 directly into the left lane in front of a second vehicle, a grey Jeep. The driver of the Jeep then sped around the SUV, veered back into the left lane, and suddenly decelerated. In an effect to avoid a collision, the driver of the SUV swerved, lost control, and flipped over into the westbound lanes of traffic, ejecting three of the occupants.

Witnesses said the driver of the grey Jeep got out of his car and saw the injured people, but fled the scene.

Troopers are investigating this accident as a road rage.
