Dallas ISD officer shot; one person in custody
At around 10:30am Thursday morning, a Dallas Independent School District police officer was flagged down along LBJ Freeway and advised of a man walking on the highway, possibly in distress.
The DISD officer picked up the man, and transported him to the Walmart parking lot for safety.
As the DISD officer was dropping him off, a shooting occurred. The officer was shot.
A nearby officer arrived and applied a tourniquet to the injured officer, who was shot in the lower torso.
According to scanner traffic, one person was taken into custody in a nearby neighborhood. Police have not confirmed if it is the suspect, but did confirm one person is in custody.
Dallas Fire Rescue transported the injured officer with a police escort to Parkland Hospital for emergency surgery. The officer’s condition is not known at this time.
The Chief of the Dallas ISD Police Department has identified the officer as Justin Jones, a 39-year-old man. He has served with the DISD Police Department for 16 years. He is currently assigned as an officer at White High School.
Dallas ISD PD, Dallas PD, DART PD, DPS, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and the ATF remain on scene investigating the incident.
