Two dead, two critical after Hill County crash
On Saturday, September 5, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers along with Hillsboro DPS, CareFlite ground EMS, Woodbury FD, Peoria FD, and others responded to a five-vehicle crash on SH-171 near CR 4223, north of Hillsboro.
A farm tractor towing farm equipment was traveling northbound with its lights flashing. A northbound vehicle passed a pickup truck, re-entered the right lane, and crashed into the farm equipment, causing it to detach.
Shortly after, a southbound SUV and a southbound pickup truck were involved in a crash with objects in the roadway. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck, along with a passenger from the SUV, exited their vehicles and were standing in the roadway when they were struck by another vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle which initially hit the farm equipment was critically hurt and airlifted to a hospital.
Both occupants of the pickup truck were pronounced deceased. The passenger from the SUV was also airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
No other injuries have been reported.
UPDATE
According to DPS, the two deceased victims have been identified as a 39-year-old man and 39-year-old woman from Arlington.
They were married and leave behind two young daughters.
The passenger from the SUV has been identified as a 12-year-old. This individual remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the initial crash involving the farm equipment.
