UPDATE: False report of kidnapping by the child’s father leads to Amber Alert

On Sunday evening, the Dallas Police Department responded to reports of a stolen vehicle and kidnapping at the McDonald’s, 2215 S. Buckner Blvd. The 9-1-1 caller reported he saw a white male steal his vehicle with his young son inside. Dallas police officers quickly sent out information through the internet regarding this alleged kidnapping.

The 9-1-1 caller was taken to be interviewed by detectives. At this time, a large search began for the missing child. Dallas Police began compiling information to issue an Amber Alert.

A track of the 9-1-1 caller’s phone led officers to an area of southeast Dallas off Rylie Road where the vehicle was located. The child was not located. At the time the vehicle was located, Dallas Police had already been in contact with DPS regarding the issuance of an Amber Alert; however, since the suspect vehicle was found, that information was taken out of the Amber Alert.

At around 10:42pm, the Amber Alert was officially issued, but did not include information regarding the suspect’s then found vehicle or the missing child. Police quickly reached out to DPS who sent out further information on social media to include details on the missing child.

At 12:20am, Police received word from a female that the allegedly missing child and his mother were at her residence. The child had been with his mother all day, and was abducted at the original 9-1-1 caller stated. During the investigation, it was revealed the 9-1-1 caller has been estranged from the child’s mother for some time. The child was never inside the vehicle.

Dallas Police and the District Attorney’s Office are exploring charges for the child’s father at this time.
