16-year-old arrested after causing fatal crash along I-20 in Dallas
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality accident overnight that occurred along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Hampton Road in southern Dallas.
A preliminary investigation of the scene indicates a 16-year-old driver of a small vehicle struck the back left fender of a Ford pickup truck, causing both vehicles to spin out. The pickup truck then overturned into the grassy median.
Immediately following the crash, officials say the 16-year-old fled from the scene, but he was arrested by Dallas police officers a short time later.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 50-year-old female, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Dallas paramedics. Four other passengers in the pickup truck, including an 11-year-old child, were transported to area hospitals in stable condition.
The 16-year-old driver has been charged with Accident Involving Death Failure to Stop and Render Aid.
