Intoxicated driver caused crash that killed three people, including pregnant woman and baby, in Mansfield, police say

A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged with three (3) counts of Intoxication Manslaughter and three (3) counts of Failure to Stop and Render Aid – Accident Involving Death after a three-car crash Saturday morning in Mansfield.

At around 7:30am on Saturday morning, the driver of a vehicle stopped on the service road of southbound Highway 360 just before Holland Road after experiencing car trouble. A second vehicle had stopped directly behind the first car to render assistance.

While they were working on the vehicle, the driver of an SUV collided into the back of the second car which then collided with the disabled car. After the collision, the driver of the SUV ran away on foot.

A 28-year-old man working on the vehicle was trapped underneath the car. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. A pregnant woman, who was the mother of the man’s unborn child, was severely hurt in the crash. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital and delivered the baby, but unfortunately the mother and her baby did not make it.

Mansfield police officers found and arrested the 31-year-old man who caused the chain reaction crash. Field sobriety tests were conducted and he was determined to be intoxicated.

The Mansfield Police Department is leading the investigation into the crash while the Arlington Police Department is leading the investigation into the DWI case and will file the criminal charges against the suspect.
