Two people killed after helicopter plummets to ground in Rowlett

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating a fatal helicopter crash that occurred earlier this morning along Lakeview Parkway in Rowlett.
At around 11:30am this morning, emergency responders from the Rowlett Fire and Police Departments responded to 5270 Grisham Drive at Lakeview Parkway after an aircraft fell from the sky. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the aircraft was fully involved with fire.
According to Flight Aware, the Robinson R-44 helicopter, owned by Sky Helicopters, Inc. out of Garland, took off from Ralph M. Hall Rockwall Municipal Airport at 11:13am and crashed at around 11:27am.
A video circulating on social media shows the tail rotor and cab of the helicopter falling to the ground after a major malfunction during flight. The NTSB and FAA will be investigating the precise caution of the accident.
According to Rowlett PD, two people died in the crash. Their identities have not yet been released.
Lanes of Lakeview Parkway were closed while emergency crews responded to the scene.
