North Richland Hills police arrest 18-year-old who brought loaded handgun to football game

An 18-year-old man from Haltom City was arrested yesterday evening and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds after he brought a loaded weapon to the Birdville Fine Arts Athletics Complex during a football game.

Around 9 p.m., school administration alerted officers that an individual believed to have a weapon had been pointed out to them. NRHPD Officers working off duty, alongside BISD Safety and Security, located the man and began speaking with him. He was detained, and a handgun with an extended magazine was found inside his waistband. The man was arrested and transported to the NRH Joint Detention Facility for booking.

“While it is unlawful to possess this firearm on school grounds, we have not discovered evidence to support any planned act of violence by the man or any other person,” said NRH PD in a statement.

“The NRHPD appreciates the tipsters who alerted officials. This is a reminder to the community that if you see something suspicious, say something. The tip allowed officers to investigate, locate the weapon, and keep those attending the game safe.”
