Woman armed with knife shot by North Richland Hills police
The North Richland Hills Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in the 4200 Block of Rufe Snow Drive.
At approximately 11:38 a.m., the North Richland Hills Police Department received a third-party call regarding a person in crisis who the caller described as out of control. When officers arrived, they observed the reported female subject breaking items in the parking lot before returning to her apartment. The officers attempted to make contact with the female by knocking on the door, at which time she exited the front door and threatened the officer with a knife while advancing towards him. In response, the officer fired his service weapon, striking the female. The officers provided medical attention until paramedics arrived and transported the female to a nearby hospital.
The woman is currently listed in stable condition. No officers were injured in this incident.
Per North Richland Hills Police standard procedure, anytime an officer fires their service weapon, two separate investigations will be initiated. A criminal investigation will be conducted by the North Richland Hills Police Department Criminal Investigations Division to review the incident and determine if any criminal offenses were committed, and a second investigation will be conducted by the North Richland Hills Police Department Professional Standards Office to determine whether the involved officer followed departmental policies and procedures.
The involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending these investigations.
