Suspect dies in car crash after shooting at DPS Trooper

At approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning, multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in a pursuit involving a suspect wanted in connection with a murder in Plano.

According to authorities, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the trooper before fleeing the scene, prompting a pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The pursuit continued northbound along Interstate 35 as officers and troopers worked to bring the situation to an end. The suspect eventually lost control and crashed the vehicle, which caught fire shortly after the impact.

Troopers and other law enforcement personnel quickly surrounded the burning vehicle and secured the scene. Authorities later confirmed the suspect was found deceased inside the vehicle.

The crash and resulting vehicle fire also ignited a grass fire in the surrounding area.

The incident remains under investigation, and additional details are expected to be released as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the pursuit and crash.
