UPDATE: Group planned “ambush” with intent to kill ICE officers at Alvarado facility

On July 4th, at approximately 10:37pm, 10-12 individuals dressed in all black, “military styled” clothing began shooting fireworks and committing acts of vandalism at the Prairieland Detention Facility in Alvarado, Texas.

Around that same time, the Alvarado Police Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of Sunflower Lane in reference to a suspicious person. Officers responded to the area and observed a suspicious person that appeared to be carrying a firearm.  As the first responding officer attempted to engage the person, multiple suspects opened fire on the officer, striking him in the neck. The officer was flown to Harris Methodist Hospital Ft. Worth, was treated, and released.

The suspects attempted to flee the scene. Officers from the Alvarado Police Department, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and neighboring agencies took several armed suspects into custody.

Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson says this was part of a planned, organized ambush with an intent to kill ICE officers.

“My office has charged 10 individuals with three counts of Attempted Murder of a Federal Officer. They have also been charged with three counts of Discharging a Firearm in Relation to a Crime of Violence. Each faces a mandatory prison term of 10 years up to life in prison.”

The attackers used the vandalism in an attempt to draw ICE officers outside of the facility. One of the assailants shot 20-30 rounds at two unarmed corrections officers who went outside to investigate the group. It was around this time that the Alvarado officer was hurt.

Officers located an AR-style rifle at the scene. Other firearms and ballistic vests were recovered from the vehicle stopped by Johnson County law enforcement. Some of the individuals had body armor and two-way radios on them.

A total of 12 sets of body armor were found. Masks, goggles, and tactical gloves were also found.

“Due to the rapid response of local law enforcement, these individuals were quickly apprehended. It was an egregious attack on law enforcement officers,” says Larson.

UPDATE: Three shot, two fatally, at Arlington QuikTrip

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a late night shooting that resulted in the deaths of two young men and injured a third.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at approximately 10:06 p.m., officers responded to a gas station in the 5600 block of S. Cooper Street to investigate a reported shooting.

When they arrived on scene, they found a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds lying unresponsive in the parking lot. They were both transported to area hospitals where they were later pronounced deceased from their injuries.

Officers also located another 19-year-old man who was shot in the foot. He was transported to an area hospital as well, and has since been treated and released.

Multiple people involved in the incident, including the suspected gunman, were still on scene when officers arrived and were quickly detained.

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing additional evidence, detectives learned two groups got into a physical fight in the parking lot, during which the suspect – 17-year-old Saman Islam – retrieved a gun from a vehicle and fired multiple rounds, striking the victims. It’s unclear what started the fight.

Mr. Islam was arrested and booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Capital Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Update: Pallets catch fire at Dallas recycling facility

On Sunday, March 16, at 3:43 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) units were dispatched in response to a 911 call for a fire at the Cham Star Recycling facility, located at 4141 Singleton Blvd.

When first arriving companies arrived at the large commercia facility, they reported out with heavy fire and black smoke coming from behind the location. Using hand lines, and multiple aerial ladder towers to spray water from above, firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. As it currently stands, there are several hot spots remaining within the remnants, so an excavator has been requested to dig through the debris to find and extinguish them.

DFR’s HazMat team was dispatched as a precaution, but they confirmed that no hazardous materials were involved in the fire.
