National Weather Service surveying damage across Dallas and Collin counties

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is sending out damage assessment teams to several areas across Dallas and Collin counties today to survey the aftermath.

Teams will be going into the impacted areas in Dallas, Richardson, Garland, Sachse, and Rowlett to study the damage and classify the tornado with an appropriate rating.

As reported last night, the damage in Dallas is primarily confined to the north side of town, bounded by I35E to US-75, along Northwest Highway and north to 635.

Garland PD reported damage to structures near the intersection of Shiloh Road and Miller Road late last night as well.

Sachse PD reported major damage to homes in the 6800 block of Eastview Drive.

Richardson PD reported damage in the southeast of town. Large trees uprooted, vehicles overturned, and roofs blown off. No injuries.

Dallas Fire Station 41 severely damaged by tornado

Dallas Fire Rescue’s Fire Station #41, located at 5920 Royal Lane, sustained major damage during last night’s severe storms and tornado.

Luckily, no firefighters were injured. The apparatus bay has been completely destroyed.

Truck 41 was in house at the time of the damage, but it is unclear if the vehicle has sustained damage.

OVERNIGHT: Second round of strong, possibly severe weather moving in from the west

As discussed earlier in the day, the second round of strong weather continues to form and strengthen west of the immediate Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex. This line of strong storms is currently moving east and should sweep through in a few hours.

Residents who are currently in the tornado impact zone in north Dallas need to know of the incoming weather. If you have friends or family dealing with damage, please inform them of the storms in the next few hours.

The line of storms will impact 100% of the DFW Metroplex as it sweeps through after midnight. Strong, potentially damaging winds, hail, and frequent lightning are all possible. There is a low tornado threat.

Dallas tornado damage updates: homes and businesses destroyed, power lines down, gas leaks

The Dallas Fire Department and Police Department continue to respond to multiple calls related to tornado damage. The damage is confined to north Dallas, primarily east of I35E, along and north of Northwest Highway, up to 635, and Dallas North Tollway on the east.

Neighborhoods including Northwest Dallas, Preston Hollow, near Dallas Love Field, and others have been impacted.

Dallas Fire-Rescue continues to search houses that have been impacted by the storm. Some have collapsed. Some have had their roofs blown off. At least several dozen (probably more) residential structures have sustained significant damage.

There have also been major damage to commercial buildings along Walnut Hill Lane and Marsh Lane. Additional damage / structural collapses have been reported at these locations:

5900 Orchid Lane (near St. Mark’s School)
10544 Harry Hines
9600 Brockbank
Midway and Northcrest
4100 Walnut Glen Place
7100 Royal

And many more. Firefighters and police officers are going door to door working to find and rescue trapped residents. The impact area is widespread.

There are also many power lines and tree limbs down, hindering response efforts.

There are also several reports of gas leaks in the impacted area.

“Debris everywhere” – Tornado damage reported throughout north Dallas

Dallas Fire-Rescue and Police and other agencies are responding to multiple damage calls after a confirmed tornado moved through northern Dallas.

There are several reports of heavy damage throughout north Dallas, specifically in the Preston Hollow area, northwest Dallas, and Love Field airport areas.

Significant damage has been reported to shopping centers at the Walnut Hill Lane and Marsh Lane intersection. Ambulances have been requested for people injured.

Power lines and trees are down everywhere.

One dead after rollover crash in rural Parker County

Multiple emergency responders were called to the scene of a major accident near the 4200 block of FM 113 just north of Garner early this morning.

At around 5:30AM this morning, police say a vehicle traveling south on FM 113 failed to negotiate a curve in the road, left the roadway, and overturned. The driver was killed at the scene.

He has been identified as a 25-year-old male from Mineral Wells.

No additional details have been released at this time.

UPDATE: One confirmed dead, others seriously injured in Fort Worth crash

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a major accident with at least one confirmed fatality in the 1400 block of NE 28th Street near Nichols Street. This is just north of the Stockyards.

Fort Worth police and fire along with MedStar EMS were dispatched to the crash just before 6:15PM this evening.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed one person was dead on the scene. Three others were seriously injured. One of those was transported to the hospital with CPR in progress (probable fatality).

Lanes of NE 28th Street are closed in this area while police investigate the crash. It is best to avoid this area.

Tornado WATCH issued for North Texas, including DFW, until 2AM

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado WATCH for a large portion of North Texas, including the DFW Metroplex, until 2AM.

Discrete thunderstorms are capable of producing severe weather, including the potential of tornadoes, throughout the late evening hours. A second round of thunderstorms is forecasted to move through with additional severe weather.

The tornado threat is highest with the ongoing discrete thunderstorms. Residents in the path of these storms should monitor closely and get into shelter if advised to do so.

One dead, one injured after vehicle strikes highway sign on I20

The Dallas County Sheriffs Office is investigating a major accident with fatality along the westbound lanes of I20 near Polk Street.

DSO and Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene around 12:34AM this morning. One vehicle had struck a large highway sign post and caught fire.

One occupant was confirmed to be deceased on the scene. One person was transported to the Methodist Dallas hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Police are investigating reports that the vehicle was seen swerving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed before impacting the sign.

The body has not yet been identified due to its condition.

Bicyclist struck and killed by vehicle in Denton

The Denton Police Department is investigating a major accident with fatality involving a bicycle this evening on Loop 288.

Police say a bicyclist was attempting to cross Loop 288 near Audra Lane when a vehicle traveling southbound on the roadway struck him. The crash occurred around 8:44PM.

Lanes of southbound Loop 288 were closed while police investigated the scene.

Update – The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as a 62-year-old male from Denton.
