Full update from FWPD: On June 25, 2021, North Division officers responded to 9800 Interstate 35(North Freeway) in reference to a shooting call. Upon arrival, officers located an individual that was shot and lying in the roadway. He was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment, but did not survive his injuries.
Detectives arrived to the shooting location and determined that the deceased was traveling on a motorcycle northbound on I-35 and driving his motorcycle in between lanes of traffic on the center white line. The driver of an SUV started to change lanes without seeing the motorcyclist traveling in between vehicles. The driver of the motorcycle then passed multiple cars ahead of the SUV and parked his motorcycle, stopping all traffic. The motorcyclist then walked back toward the SUV that he swerved to avoid hitting, and pointed a handgun at the driver of the SUV. The driver of that vehicle told the motorcyclist to put down the gun and that he had children in his vehicle. The motorcyclist continued to advance toward the driver, continuing to point a handgun at him and his vehicle. Fearing for his safety and the safety of his passengers, the driver retrieved his handgun and shot the motorcyclist multiple times.
Officers on scene located the handgun that the motorcyclist had at the time of the shooting. Detectives have interviewed several witnesses from the scene. Detectives have also stated that the driver of the SUV is cooperating with the investigation and has not been arrested.
