Driver killed, passenger gravely hurt in fiery Richardson crash

The Richardson Police Department is investigating a fatality crash that occurred on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at approximately 2:54 p.m.

Officers responded to the intersection of Buckingham Road and S. Sherman Street, and located a damaged SUV. A second SUV was found in the parking lot of an adjacent business, where it had crashed through a fence and then into a tree. The second SUV caught fire and both the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle by witnesses.

The driver of the second SUV, a 74-year-old Richardson resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. The driver of the first SUV was not injured.

Information from witnesses indicated the Acura was westbound on Buckingham Rd. and the Honda was northbound on S. Sherman St. when the initial crash occurred.

The crash is still under investigation by the Special Crash Investigation Team.
