Denton police charge man with Murder after fentanyl overdose

A 31-year-old man has been charged with Murder following a Denton Police Department investigation into a fatal fentanyl overdose.

On January 21, 2024, officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in the 500 block of Inman Street. The male victim, who was later identified as a 26-year-old male, was declared deceased on scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his cause of death as combined cocaine and fentanyl toxicity.

Through their investigation, Denton PD detectives learned that the victim had obtained narcotics containing fentanyl from a co-worker, Pedro Martinez. Detectives interviewed Martinez in the Denton County Jail, where he was being held on other charges. Martinez told detectives that he had sold the narcotics to King and that he was aware they contained fentanyl.

On Tuesday, June 18, detectives obtained a warrant for Martinez for the charge of Murder. Martinez is currently in the Denton County Jail, with bail not yet set.
