Armed suspect shot, critically hurt after pursuit, rollover in Cleburne
On Saturday, May 16, 2026, Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) regarding Joseph Boy, who was reported to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Information received indicated that Boy had allegedly made threats that he would engage in a shootout with law enforcement rather than return to prison.
Troopers with Texas Department of Public Safety located Boy and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Boy fled from law enforcement, resulting in a vehicle pursuit. Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.
The pursuit ended after a PIT maneuver was conducted, causing the suspect vehicle to crash. During attempts to take Boy into custody, Boy produced a firearm and was subsequently shot by law enforcement officers.
Boy was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. His current condition is unknown at this time, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Initial information from the scanner indicates he was transported with life-threatening injuries.
This remains an active investigation and the scene is currently being processed. In accordance with standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings involving Sheriff’s Office personnel, the investigation will be turned over to the Texas Rangers.
All involved law enforcement officers were uninjured during the incident.
