Grand Prairie police warn of dangerous snake on the loose
The Grand Prairie Police Department is warning residents in a particular neighborhood to watch out for a dangerous snake on the loose.
Last night (Tuesday) at around 6:30pm, Grand Prairie Animal Services were contacted about a missing snake that had escaped an enclosure at a home in the 1800 block of Cherry Street.
Crews from animal services and professional snake apprehension specialists searched for the snake inside and outside the house throughout the night, but the snake was not located. They believe the snake may have slithered into the surrounding neighborhood.
The West African Banded Cobra snake is venomous and dangerous, police say. They are warning people not to approach or capture the snake.
The owner is permitted to have the snake, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The Grand Prairie Police Department has partnered with the Grand Prairie Fire Department who has alerted area
hospitals of the missing snake and initiated a protocol with Parkland Hospital to treat this type of snake bite in
event of a human encounter. GPPD has also been in contact with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
related to policy and procedures on the permitting of venomous snakes in residential areas.
