One dead after vehicle hits pillar along I-30 in Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred just before 1:00AM this morning along westbound Interstate 30 near Bridgewood Drive.

According to the 9-1-1 caller, a pickup truck was driving in the left lane when it abruptly swerved right across all lanes and slammed into a metal pillar. The crash caused substantial damage to the vehicle.

The driver of the truck was deceased at the scene when officers arrived. His or her identity has not yet been released.

Debris from the crash was scattered across the highway, causing at least two additional minor crashes.

All lanes of westbound Interstate 30 were closed at Bridgewood Drive during the overnight hours while police investigated the scene.

3 killed after racing vehicle crashes into another in south Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a multi-fatality accident that occurred just after midnight in the 4700 block of W. Risinger Road at Tangleridge Drive, just east of the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Police say two vehicles were racing when a vehicle from an intersecting road turned in front of them. One of the racing vehicles hit the turning vehicle, causing the vehicle to overturn. The racing vehicle crashed off the roadway, into a brick wall, and burst into flames.

Two individuals in the vehicle struck by the racing vehicle were pronounced deceased.

The driver of the racing vehicle was also killed in the crash.

The second racing vehicle sped away and officers were unable to locate it.

This crash was one of four fatality crashes overnight in the Fort Worth area. Use caution and drive safely.

You’re gonna want to avoid Interstate 30 in Arlington this weekend.

The Texas Department of Transportation will be closing all main lanes of Interstate 30 in Arlington this weekend while crews continue to construct the new interchange at Interstate 30 and State Highway 360.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of I-30 will be blocked from Collins Street (Arlington) to the President George Bush Turnpike (Grand Prairie) from 7:00PM Friday, November 6th, until 7:00AM Sunday, November 8th.

Crews will be removing the northbound State Highway 360 bridge over I-30 along with a partial removal of the service road bridge.

EASTBOUND DETOUR: Vehicles will be directed off eastbound I-30 at Collins Street, south to Division Street, east Division Street to the northbound State Highway 161 service road, and back to I-30. The tolls will be suspended during the detour, so don’t worry about a tolltag.

WESTBOUND DETOUR: Vehicles will be diverted off westbound I-30 will take the opposite detour as the eastbound vehicles.

One person airlifted from Cleburne crash; one driver runs away, but later caught

The Cleburne Police Department is investigating a serious crash that occurred earlier this afternoon in the 1800 block of West Henderson Street near Highway 67.

At around 4:00PM this afternoon, multiple emergency responders were dispatched to a crash in front of the Holiday Inn Express. Two vehicles were involved in a crash. A female passenger in one of the vehicles was transported by CareFlite helicopter to Harris downtown with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of one of the vehicles ran away from the scene after the crash. Police were able to track him down off Shawnee Drive. He was arrested and charged with a felony.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Driver dies in head-on crash along Main Street in The Colony

The Colony Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred earlier this morning along Main Street (FM 423) near the E. Lake Highlands Drive intersection.

Investigators say a pickup truck was driving south on Main Street, crossing the bridge over Lake Lewisville, when the driver failed to navigate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle drove over the median and collided head-on with a passenger vehicle and large commercial dump truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not ruled out that the driver of the pickup truck may have suffered a medical emergency while driving, causing him to crash into the oncoming lanes of travel.

All northbound lanes of FM 423 / Main Street were closed for almost six hours while The Colony police investigated the scene. The crash happened just before 6:30AM this morning and lanes were reopened around noon.

UPDATE: 18-year-old arrested for murder of actor Eddie Hassell in Grand Prairie

The Grand Prairie Police Department has released an update regarding the homicide of 30-year-old actor Eddie Hassell.

On Wednesday, an 18-year-old man was arrested by the United States Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force and Grand Prairie Police Department. He has been charged with one count of Capital Murder in the shooting death of Hassell. He is currently being held at the Grand Prairie jail on a $500,000 bond.

Detectives in the case discovered that the suspect was attempting to rob Hassell at the time of the shooting. It was a random attack.

Hassell’s vehicle was taken from the Indigo Pointe apartments, where the shooting happened overnight Sunday, but it was later recovered.

The incident remains under investigation.

Motorcycle riders seriously injured after hitting a speed bump while running from Haltom City police

A motorcycle operator and rider were both seriously injured this morning after a short pursuit and crash involving the Haltom City Police Department.

At around 4:00AM this morning, Haltom City officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle that was reported stolen. When officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, it sped off and a pursuit began around Webster Street and Denton Highway.

The pursuit continued to the Birdville ISD football stadium. As the motorcycle was speeding through the parking lot, it hit a speed bump and both riders were ejected off the bike.

MedStar EMS paramedics were called to the scene. The 34-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was transported to JPS Hospital with serious injuries. The 31-year-old female back passenger was transported to Harris downtown with life-threatening injuries.

Traffic investigators and the department’s Crime Scene Investigation team were called to the stadium for accident investigation. You may have noticed heavy police activity in the area this morning.

Any charges will be determined after the investigation is complete.

Plano man injured after dog’s paw pulls trigger of gun on his hip

The Plano Police Department is investigating the accidental shooting injury of a man earlier this week.

Officials say the man had his handgun tucked into his waistband when he bent down to pick up his dog. As he was picking up the pup, the dog’s paw accidentally pulled the trigger on his handgun, sending a bullet straight into the man’s thigh.

Luckily, the man was not seriously injured. The bullet managed to miss his artery and went through his leg.

“If you have a License to Carry, we ask for your safety and the safety of others, be responsible,” wrote the Plano Police Department in a Facebook post, urging gun safety.

  • When you are carrying your firearm, make sure you have a holster that is safe and protects the trigger from any inadvertent discharges.
  • When you are not carrying your firearm, store it in a gun safe or other locking device to keep them out of the hands of others.
  • Always assume the weapon is loaded and treat it as such.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until the weapon is ready to be fired.
  • Practice, practice, practice. Know your weapon, how and when to use it, and be a smart and responsible gun owner.

Police track down and arrest suspect who allegedly killed man in Collin County

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting homicide that occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the 15300 block of County Road 558.

At around 4:45PM, police were called to the rural residence outside of Farmersville and located the body of a 32-year-old man. Witnesses said the suspect fled the scene after shooting and killing the man.

Sheriffs deputies issued a statewide BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for 31-year-old Alfred Olivo, the identified suspect in the murder.

Three hours after the shooting, officers from the New Boston, Texas Police Department observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Interstate 30. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect sped off and led police on a chase that ended near Texarkana. Olivo was taken into custody.

“Alfred Olivo was captured within hours of this killing because of the collaboration of several North Texas law enforcement agencies who came together in a swift, seamless and coordinated fashion,” stated Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner.

Olivo is currently in the Bi-State Detention Center on a $750,000 bond.

Body recovered from neighborhood park in Duncanville

The Duncanville Police Department is investigating a drowning incident at Lakeside Park, a neighborhood park near the intersection of Camp Wisdom Road and Cedar Ridge Drive.

According to witnesses, an adult man waded into the pond yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) and attempted to swim into the water. They reported the man struggled briefly, went under, and did not resurface. At least one of the witnesses jumped into the water, while another called 9-1-1.

Duncanville police officers arrived quickly and attempted to locate the man, but were unsuccessful. After an exhaustive search throughout the evening on Tuesday, emergency responders had to suspend operations due to nightfall. The search resumed this morning (Wednesday).

The Grand Prairie Fire Department’s Dive Team was requested to assist in the search efforts today. The dive team, along with members of the Duncanville FD and PD, made a successful recovery this morning around 9:00AM.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. Officials believe he was an adult man in this 50’s or 60’s.
