Three suspects arrested after two related shootings across Arlington

2900 block of Deer Creek Dr

At around 1:35am, officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Deer Creek Drive to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived on scene, they located a 32-year-old woman who had been shot in the arm. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The woman’s boyfriend told officers a group of young men knocked on their door looking for someone who did not live there. The suspects and the boyfriend got into a verbal argument. During the argument, the boyfriend retrieved a bat and told the suspects to leave. He said at that point, at least one of the suspects pulled out a gun and began firing towards the apartment.

The woman was struck. The boyfriend was not injured. Their dog was also grazed by a bullet, but is expected to be okay.

The suspects then got into a Honda Civic and drove off from the scene.

4900 block of Little Road

At around 3:00am, officers responded to a parking lot in the 4900 block of Little Road to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived on scene, they found a 34-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound inside a parked vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.

A woman who was with the man told officers that as they were getting into their car, a vehicle – believed to be the same Honda Civic from the Deer Creek Dr incident – blocked them in. Four people then exited the vehicle and two of them approached the couple. One of them had a gun, pointed it at them, and told them to get out of the vehicle. Moments later, shots were fired and the man inside the car was struck. The woman was not injured.

The four suspects got back inside the Honda Civic and drove off.

With the assistance of witnesses and nearby surveillance footage, officers were able to get a good description of the suspect vehicle. They also learned the Honda had been reported stolen out of Dallas. A BOLO was pushed out to officers.

Just after 5:00am, a patrol officer located the Honda along Parkway Lane. There was also a second vehicle, a Lincoln Town Car, that appeared to be traveling with / following the Honda. The officer attempted to pull over the Honda – but instead of stopping, the driver sped off.

The Lincoln stopped. Officers determined the two individuals inside the Lincoln were associated with the suspects in the Honda. Officers then arrested the two individuals inside the Lincoln, a teenage male and 20-year-old Humberto Barajas. Mr. Barajas was booked into the Arlington City Jail on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Robbery. He also had an active warrant for an unrelated Agg Assault charge out of Dallas County.

Because the teenage male is a juvenile, we are unable to release his name. He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Robbery. He will be transported to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center.

Officers located the Honda wrecked out in the 2100 block of Browning Dr. They later located and arrested one individual believed to be inside the vehicle, 17-year-old Angel Barajas.
